"People look out of the frame as if trying to see beyond their immediacy with expectations tempered by their realities"
(from artist statement)
Historically PMcK's (click to read more) genre of Photography lies in Documentary and Photojournalism. In the 80's he was one of the founders of the agency Afrapix (click to read more) and a chief photographer for Drum (click to read more) magazine. Currently PMcK holds many international and national exhibitions and workshops on Photography.
I have recently had many incredible conversations with PMcK about Photography. There are 3 things that PMcK often says, that resonate for me, as they make me think more about the nature of Photography and these are:
1. A Photograph is both "a mirror and a lens".
2. His interest in the conundrum (the confusing question, the problem) of the "space between the lens and the subject".
3. A Photographer doesn't take or shoot a Photograph, he/she imbues (inspire, permeates a quality or feeling) or makes a Photograph.
Lets take these conversations further when PMcK makes his visit.
---> Please make sure that you diarise and make an effort to attend.

ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR THE ADVICES,WE LEARN MORE FROM YOU . THANX
ReplyDeletewow.. what an inspiring lecture. he is an inspiration to all photographers. His images aren't only great to look at but they have an emotional side to every shot he takes. He takes his images from the heart and not by what just appears in front of him!

nthabz ft ntombie it was an amazing experience to learn how people lived in went worth, what they believed in and the environment they lived in which was not suitable for a growing child for example: the street life, the violence and the abuse of drugs.
ReplyDeleteThe visit by Mr McKenzie was very informative and well presented. It envailed a lot of true situation that the community of wentworth have been going though the past and still today. The issue of the democracy doing nothing for the people is still affecting a lot of us!
ReplyDeleteI was impressed the way you represented, your pictures were amazing.I also learned that photography was in existance before the modern days came.

ReplyDeletei think peter rock and it is very helpful and resourceful to hear from people who are already in the field, and liked the film very much, the advise too were great, when he said one should use the strength and the weaknesses of the previous work/project to make his/her following project a success and that was wooooow!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteNetty: I just wanted to say thank you to Peter for coming and showing us what he has done and created and even though your first pictures were stolen we could still get the feel of what had happened when you went back. I really enjoyed your visit and learning more about you.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you soon
I enjoyed the presentation. It was nice to hear his story and the meaning behind his photos. I like that all the pictures where in black and white, i think it showed more emotion.
ReplyDeletei think that peter mc khenzies work is innovative and in some ways inspiring .he is truly an inspiration and he should carry on.
ReplyDeleteHis photography is outstanding. As is the whole idea behind his work.
ReplyDeleteBig ups to the main man.
love all your picture. black and white is still da best. great mood to all the pics and loves the movie
ReplyDeleteHis work is amazing. The way he relates to his subjects, makes his work 'dynamic'. He touches on the hidden conflicts in a , seemingly, perfect country.
ReplyDeleteHis keen eye for detail and his attitude of "Making each centimeter of the photograph interesting/ have meaning" really shows how strongly he feels about detail.
His artistic approach of 'going monochrome' enhances the mood and gives his photographs more appeal (totally my opinion), conveying a very strong message about a group of people almost separated from society.
Thumbs up!
i misd dis 1, bt frm wat i hed, it ws educational nd 2 b honest, i ws inpsired
ReplyDeleteto me i lean present my work in front of the people and, i see that some other people a still seafaring in our new democracy country and i see that it very important be motivated into the community last i get huge inspiration how do be good documentary photography.
ReplyDeleteGood presentation. His documentary to me was very informative. Just a few kilometers away from me. place (Wentworth) I've heard of it but not the things that really happened there and the things that happens now, are kind of unbelievable.
